“This investment, for the Portuguese economy, for the self-esteem of our country, is as important as the rating from any agency”, Paulo Portas said at the agreement signing ceremony at the car plant.
“Confidence is seen through facts. If such a big company, in global terms, decides to invest in Portugal, another €677 million and create jobs here and modernise technologies in our country (…), it is obviously because Portugal has become a more attractive country to invest in. And this is the time to put Portugal on the GPS of investors and to create jobs”, Portas added.
Autoeuropa general director, António de Melo Pires, told reporters “this new investment is going to let the company boost its ability to attract new Volkswagen group models, while preparing for the challenges of new habits in the automobile industry “.
